Staples Teacher Gift Bag

Staples has begun advertising its Teacher Appreciation Day giveaway already. If you go to their website, you can check out your local Staples for the date they're planning on holding this lovely event.  (Looks like a lot of end of August in our area.)
Personally, I end up giving Staples a tremendous amount of business during the school year --- and I really appreciate their little give back with this event.  Thanks Staples!!

I don't think I'm prepared for the kind of frugal shopping I do to become fashionable.  I can't quite envision some of the folks where I work running multiple transactions at Shaws or CVS to make the most of the CATs or ECBs.  And above all else, I abhor trendiness --- so I may be about to find myself between a rock and hard place --- I can't give up my free-shopping and it appears that doing it may make me "trendy" --- ugh.

So, what makes me say all of this --- well for starters, I'm seeing several of the more well known bloggers on the frugal way appearing in snippets in womens magazines, talk shows and the newspaper --- and then to blow it all right out of the water --- I stumbled across two review of this book -----

This review by Write Meg really got me --- I have to read this book, you know (okay, okay, since when have I ever met a book I didn't think I had to read???)   And then Write Meg is doing a giveaway (which you know I have to enter --- because if I can get the book for free then I REALLY have to read it!!)

Head on over and check out the review -- even if you're not a die-hard reader, you'll giggle at the review -- and I think it might tease you into reading the book.

If I win, I'll share!! Otherwise I'll be the gal curled up in the corner at BN with the latte and a copy of this book this weekend.

Stop and Shop: Week of 6/26

Oh, lordy, Stop and Shop and I are going to be spending more time together this week than the Governor of South Carolina and Argentina --- (okay, bad joke)

Seriously --- there are some amazingly good deals at Stop and Shop this week.  With the July 4th weekend coming up, this is a no-brainer for me....I can't miss it.

So -- here's the deal.

First of all, there is a wonderful gift from the gods floating around the internet in the form of a meat coupon from Stop and Shop.  Get if by clicking here.  Now head on out to Stop and Shop and do some cleaning up on meat for the barbecue you're planning for the Fourth.

I'm thinking something along the lines of:

Sirloin Steak Tips (3 lbs.+) $3.99 - Certified Angus Beef Tips are $4.99 lb. (that sounds like shish-kebob to me)
Bonless Center Cut Pork Chops (3 lbs.+) $1.99 lb.  (mmmm -- on the grill with some sweet and spicy rub)
White Gem Drumsticks or Thighs  (3 lbs.+) 99¢ lb.  (not for our household, but I know this is a good price for chicken right off the top --- when you add in the coupon, it becomes amazing!!)
93% Lean Ground Beef (3 lbs.+) $3.99 lb.  (Hamburgers anyone??)

And then there's more:

Certified Angus Beef 85% Lean Ground Beef Patties $3.99 lb.
Porter House or T-Bone Steak (3 lbs.+) $6.99 lb.
Fresh Pork Spare Ribs (3 lbs.+) $2.49
Boneless Country Style Pork Ribs (3 lbs.+) $1.79 lb.
Fresh Beef, Chicken, or Pork Kabobs $3.99 lb.
Nature's Promise 94% Lean Fresh Ground Turkey (16 oz. pkg.) $3.59
Nature's Promise Chicken or Pork Sausage $4.99 lb.
S&S White Gem Wings (3 lbs.+) $1.99 lb.
Fresh Lamb Loin Chops (3 lbs.+) $6.99 lb.
White Gem Boneless Breast Chicken (3 lbs.+) $2.99 lb.

I'm going bananas just thinking about the possibilities and we're not even serious meat eaters --- still -- this is a great deal.

But wait!!  There's more!!  (I love that line --- ginsu knives here we come)

Edy's Ice Cream BOGO
Kraft BBQ Sauce $1 (to put on all that meat, naturally and you can use the $1/2 from the 6/14 SS)
S&S Butter Quarters, 8oz, $1 (stock up -- we're not likely to see this price again until the holiday baking sales start)
Oscar Mayer Sliced Bacon BOGO
Strawberries 2/$4
Sweet Corn, 12/$1.99
Birds Eye Boxed Vegs $1
Kraft Boxed Mac $1 use the B3G1 from the 6/28 SS  -- so 4/$3 -- again, food pantry price for me.
Knorr Sides $1 (use the coupon from 5/17 RP for $1/3 and you're getting 12/ $8 -- if you don't like them, that's a food pantry price)
Dole Salad Blends 2/$5  (this is a pretty common sale price, but for the Fourth, I'm going for it)
Hillshire Farm Kielbasa or Smoked Sausage BOGO
Mama Rosie's Ravioli, Gnocchi, $1 (this is a terrific stock-up price for a good quality frozen ravioli -- my freezer will likely be filling -- if there's room after all of the meat, that is)

Wise Potato Chips, $1

Also, people are reporting scanner discounts on the strawberries, ravioli, and butter (if your store has the handheld scanners that you carry down the aisle and do yourself -- it might be worth it)

*** Amazing kudos to the gals at the Slickdeals Stop and Shop Thread for this information

Kmart Deal

This is one of those things where you gotta wonder about the people making the big bucks at KMart's headquarters...... I understand when a company has an oops -- but when they repeat the same darn thing??!!??

Oh, well --- to our benefit then.....

KMart is going to be running a deal (watch the flyers, I don't have dates yet) Buy a $50 gift card and get a $10 gift card free.

Now that doesn't sound like such a great deal on the surface --- BUT....

At KMart you can use a gift card to buy a gift card ----

So ---- Lay out $50 and buy a $50 GC -- get a $10 GC free

Use the first $50 GC to purchase another $50 GC --- and get another $10 GC free

Use that $50 GC to purchase another $50 GC -- and get another $10 GC free ---

Okay if you stop right there (and I know you're not going to) you have spent $50 and you now have $80 --- Try that at the stock market.

You can continue doing this until you get tired, the store runs out of gift cards or hell freezes -- which ever comes first.

If you have a fairly large purchase you'd like to make at KMart -- this is a great way to work out a super cheap deal.

Or --- you can hold onto the GCs until the next superdoubles deal at KMart and pay them with their own money..... tee hee.
