Shaws Deals: Don't Miss It!!

Wow oh wow.  Shaws has outdone themselves this week.  You will not believe your eyes on this set of deals.  The weekly sales look pretty good --- the catalinas look great ---- but the double and triple dipping that is possible with the catalinas -- is out of this world.
This is one of those times when you want to go to Shaws without your husband, without your kids -- and just keep running transaction after transaction until you just can't carry any more out to your car.
Essentially there are three overlapping catalina deals this week:
1. Unilever Catalina -- Buy $30 worth of qualifying product (you know that means pre-sale price) and get $15 catalina back.
2.  Unilever Beauty Product Catalina --- This one has a smaller sub-set of products that qualify -- Its basically Suave, Qtips, Dove, Caress, and Slimfast.  Spend $10 get $3, Spend $20 get $7 or Spend $30 get $12
3.  Kelloggs/Dr Pepper Catalina --  Spend $20 get $10.
There is also a smaller catalina on the Skippy All Natural Peanut Butter (the brown lid)  Buy 2 -Get $1.00. Remember Skippy is a Unilever product.
Essentially what this all means is:
Buy $30 worth of product that qualifies for the overall Unilever Deal and get $15 back -- but if all of those items are also qualifying for the Unilever Beauty Deal, you'll also get $12 back  -- for a grand total of $27 back (Anyone hearing the moneymaker alarm going off in their head??)
Buy $30 worth of product that qualifies for the overall Unilever Deal and get you $15 back --- and if $20 of it also qualifies for the Kelloggs/Dr Pepper deal -- you get an additional $10 back for a grand total of $25 back.  Cha-ching!!!
This is not the time to wander aimlessly around Shaws trying to dream up scenarios, ladies.  This is one of those times when it pays to have a serious battle plan....
First --- get yourself jumpstarted with a huge list of possible scenarios courtesy of the Shaws group at SlickDeals
Then -- go to another post courtesy of SlickDeals Shaw's Group ladies and download their Excel spreadsheet for calculating your own scenarios --- C'mon, its time to get over the Excel phobia.  The ladies have it all set up for you -- you just enter your pre-sale prices, sale prices, coupon values -- and it tells you how good the deal is.  It couldn't be simpler -- and it couldn't be a more valuable tool.  Try it.  You'll like it.

Free Ice Cream at Shop Rite

Okay ladies – I’m missing my ShopRite this week – not only do the deals overall look pretty good but Laina at Abundant Food Savings is reporting a smart little Catalina deal on Blue Bunny Ice Cream.  I know that you “need” ice cream this summer for the little ones – don’t you??
Buy 3 Blue Bunny Pints priced at .99 each
Pay $2.97
Get back a $3 Catalina
Final cost FREE!  Yep, you read that right --- no coupons, no nothing.  Just free ice cream.
There are also some $1.50 coupons floating around that will let you work the same deal with the cones and individual treats from here
Personally, the pints are easier and would work for me.
Also – apparently this deal rolls!! (Yes, I know the pun is irresistible – it rocks and ROLLS!!)  Take the CAT and do another deal until either you get tired or the ShopRite manager gives you the old heave ho….

Free Music

This may or may not be your taste in music --- but you can download (free and legally!!) up to 10 tracks from Greg Howland -- inspirational piano music --- through Friday.
Just go to Greg Howland's site -- you can download 5 tracks without any obligation or 10 tracks if you'll tell 3 friends about the deal --- pretty good deal if you ask me.
Special thanks to MoneySavingMom for pointing this one out.

Walgreens: Week of 7/26

Walgreens is doing some terrific deals this week.  I’m going to be busy.  Remember if you want all of the deals, you need to go and visit IHeartWags … I only list what interests me.  There’s always more – always.
Mars Candy is on sale $0.49 each with the Walgreens ad coupon
Use $1/2 coupon from 7/26 RP Final Cost:
FREE
Scotch Bubble Mailer on sale for $0.39 each.
Use $0.50/1 coupon from 7/26 RP Final Cost:  FREE
There are a whole bunch of buy one get 2 Free deals on school supplies:
Penway 2 pocket folder with two prongs 3/$0.59
Penway 1 Subject Notebook 3/$0.99
Penway Composition book 3/$1.99
Some other deals I like:
Starbucks Frappuccino 4/$5 with the Walgreens ad coupon
Use $1/1 coupon from 6/21 SS Final Cost:  $0.25 each (I can do this well at Big Y this week on the four packs, so I may not clean up on this deal – How many of these can my husband drink anyway??)
The register reward deals don’t excite me this week – and I’m going to be way too busy to fool around with deals that don’t excite me.  Since I don’t believe in paying for toothpaste, mouthwash etc – and the rest of the deals all seem to require printable coupons that depend on the zipcode you enter --- nope – PASS.  Too much trouble for what it is…. Not for me.

Rite Aid Moneymaker

Apparently Rite Aid has decided not to get left out of the game.  If you already have a Single Check Rebate going for this month (I do, for a change).... MoneySavingMom has a scenario for you.
With absolutely NO COUPONS required --- you'll make a little over $1.00 (heck, without coupons, you're not even working for it)
Then go to MoneySavingMom's other post for some additional ways to make some money at RiteAid this week.
I'm not a diaper gal --- but she's got some diaper scenarios too ---

Head on over to her post and see how to do it --- add one of them to your SCR that you already have going for this month --- and then laugh all the way to the bank.

Walgreens: Week of 7/19

Walgreens is screaming this week ---- I'm drooling over the back to school stuff (you know I'm collecting it like crazy already) --- but before you go do something rash like walk into Walgreens unprepared --- Here is my suggested plan of attack
1)  Go to Maven of Saving and start with her Excedrin scenario -- that will get you a $2.00 PROFIT right away (not to mention some Excedrin, which I know you'll be needing with all of this shopping.
2)  Then follow the link in that post to Nicole's Nickels and she'll show you how to get a ton of the school stuff for just the Register Reward you already have in your hot little hand from the Excedrin transaction.

So --- are you psyched yet???

CVS: Moneymaker Idea

Oh, CVS --- I think the "S" might be for "SWEET"  Once again this week they are offering us a moneymaker deal -- this time to the tune of $5.00.
CVS is offering $5ECB when you buy $10.00 of Band-Aid, Neosporin or Johnson and Johnson (And believe it or not, the limit on this is 5!!)
CVS carries J&J Travel First Aid kits for $.99 (they're hard to find -- keep hunting)
There was a $1.00 off coupon in the 5/17 RP
So -- round up 11 of the coupons
Buy 11 of the kits --- use the coupons
Makes the kits  FREE
And after the eleventh kit -- voila --- $5ECB pops out ----
The best part of the deal is that because CVS keeps track via the computer and your ExtraCare Card -- you can grab one first aid kit if you see it --- if you don't get all 11 rounded up before the end of the week, you've got yourself some free first aid kits.  If you get to 11 in your gathering process ----- you've made some money.
Worst case scenario is still a win.....
Works for me
Thanks to MoneySavingMom for passing this along

Free Starbucks Pastry

Now you know I love my Starbucks (which still astounds most people who know that I can't abide coffee -- I drink their tea lattes!)
And you know I make the most of Starbucks every chance I get (because they're so NOT budget..)
So, you know I was swooning when I came across this deal for tomorrow:
Tuesday, July 21, 2009 (that's tomorrow, right??) from opening until 10:30 am, you can use this coupon here to get a free pastry when you buy any "handcrafted beverage" (that means something they have to actually make at the bar -- rather than just plain coffee)
I'm personally a fan of the new breakfast roll they have out now --- not too sweet and very cinnamon-y.
Pair that with your black/gold Starbucks card for the discount on that drink and you have a pretty sweet deal.

Thanks to MyFrugalAdventures for finding this terrific deal.

Stockpiling for Beginners

Okay, we've had a number of conversations about stockpiling, some of us. And the rest of us are probably just about to have that self-same conversation --- so .... lets all do this together, shall we?
Why stockpile?
No, not because I think the world is going to end sometime next month and I'll need all of that food and shampoo and toothpaste.
And no, not in case of nuclear winter either.
And, definitely no ... not because we might find ourselves persecuted and unable to exercise basic acts of living... like buying food.
And yes --- I know --- all of those are reasons why some people do stockpile.
I stockpile for one very simple reason:

I see no reason to pay for something this week that the store was giving away for free last week.

That's it.  Its just that simple and cut-and-dried for me.  I "buy" when its free or nearly so.  I store it somewhere in my house.  I use what I need, when I need it.  I don't pay money for things that are easily gotten for free.
Shampoo, toothpaste, soap, deodorant, and laundry detergent can sit on my shelf as easily as they sit on the shelf at CVS, Walgreens, or RiteAid.  I am NOT paying rent to the store so that these items can sit on their shelves instead of mine.

The trick comes in finding creative storage inside my house so that my house doesn't look like CVS.  I'll work on photographing some of my storage (I don't go overboard).  But in the meantime -- have a look at AllThingsFrugal.  She has collected some of the best articles and photos (even a video) about stockpiling that I've ever seen.  Some of the folks go a little bit over the top --- beyond what I can manage or even want to manage, thank you very much.  But its enlightening --- and if you don't come away from this with
1) at least one gasp or amazement (or shock -- depending)
and
2) at least one new idea that you actually CAN USE for increasing storage at your house (the can rack/sofa table is a serious NO GO around here)
then you're doing something very wrong (or very right and should have written this article yourself.

Walgreens Coupon: Second Scenario

Okay --- the Walgreens coupon I told you about --- here's another way to work that out to quite a good deal (even though the deals are a little sparse this week).

$3.00 from the All detergent
Total Register Rewards Back:  $18.00

Final Cost:  $3.96

Walgreens Coupon $5/$25

Walgreens just released a new coupon (do you think they knew they were just not competing with CVS this week?).  For Thursday and Friday ONLY --- they'll take $5.00 off of any $25.00 purchase.
Walgreens has a special rule (one I'm not overly fond of!) -- the $25.00 has to be AFTER all other coupons and sales have already come off.  It makes the coupon a little less great --- but you can still do some major damage with it.
Mercedes over at CommonSenseWithMoney has a terrific scenario with Huggies and Coppertone.  If you're a diaper user, it might be worth your energy.  Check her out.
Since I am SOOOOOO not a diaper user (hold on while I knock on wood here) --- I won't be doing her scenario.  But I am a huge office and school supplies user (occupational hazard).  So I've cooked up a scenario including some of the school/office supplies that Walgreens has that I really, really, really want for school this year.  And of course the Coppertone --- you cannot have too much sunscreen during the summer when we all practically LIVE outside.

Buy:
*****2 bottles of Coppertone Nutrashield $10.99 a bottle = $21.98
- use 2 of the printable coupons for $5.00 off each bottle = $11.98
*****Add in 20 of the divider tabs on sale for $.39 (this is a deal that only a teacher could love) = $7.80
*****Add in 10 sets of the colored pencils for $.59 = $5.90
Total after coupons = $25.68
Less the Walgreens coupon = $20.68
Register Reward coming back on the Coppertone -- $10.00
Final Cost (for all that stuff!!) $10.68

Staples has very kindly posted the coupon online for you --- and if you're on their mailing list, they've emailed you a copy as well.
Now, aren't they helpful??  Say thank-you.

School Supplies: Target

Target has now entered the race to provide us with cheap and even freebie school supplies.  They're kicking off their offerings with a whole raft of "half-a-buck-ers" -- in other words -- $.50 items.  Its not free, but with the economy as it is, I'm expecting fewer freebies than last year --- and $.50 is still in my price range for many of these items.

--RoseArt Colored Pencils (12 count)
--RoseArt Washable Markers (8 count)
--Vinyl Binder (1 count)
--Mead Notebook (70 page)
--Vinyl Pencil Pouch
--Bic Crystal Ballpoint Pens (10 count)
--Yellow #2 Wood Pencils (24 count) (CVS gave us free pencils last week -- I'll probably pass on paying $.50 this week)
--Pink or Blue Pencil Box (don't know why its only the pink and blue, but it is)
